Where is my data stored?
All data is stored locally on your Mac using macOS UserDefaults and Keychain. Nothing is sent to our servers. API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain for security.
Does Transcribe work offline?
The app itself runs offline, but fetching transcripts and using AI requires an internet connection. If you use Ollama for AI, that part works offline too.
Why can't I find the app?
Transcribe lives in your menu bar (top-right of screen), not the Dock. Look for the speech bubble icon near the clock. You can enable a Dock icon in Settings > Show in Dock.
Transcripts are in the wrong language
Add language preferences in Settings. Transcribe sends your language priority to YouTube. Note that YouTube sometimes only has auto-generated subtitles in certain languages.
AI chat isn't working
- Make sure AI is enabled in Settings.
- Check that your API key is valid (use the Verify button).
- Ensure you have selected a model.
- If using Ollama, make sure it is running.
